Your coat will be the biggest fashion statement you make this winter, so make sure it’s one you will want to be seen in numerous times.

coats

When choosing a coat it’s important to look for a shape that will flatter your body. It’s no good buying a bubble coat if it highlights all the wrong areas of your body, just as it’d be a mistake to buy a floor-length wool coat if you’re a petite person. Belted coats are good for hourglass shapes, A-lines are good for pears, bomber jackets are great for beanpoles and larger women should avoid anything padded or quilted.  Don’t forget to check that all the buttons do up without stretching the button holes, and that there is room underneath the coat to layer clothing without making you look like the Michelin Man.

Check that quality fabrics are used in the coat, as that can be the difference between a one-season wonder and an investment piece that will last for years. Also take into consideration the climate where you live – there is no point in buying a suede coat if it’s always raining where you live, nor investing in a coat that will not keep you warm or weather proof.

Make sure you check the care labels and how easy the fabric is to care for, so you can easily keep your coat looking clean and fresh. You’re probably going to wear it most days for quite some time, so it’s vital to keep it looking good as new for those chilly winter months to come.

All that being said, most of all don’t be afraid to try on something new – you may be pleasantly surprised how fabulous you look!

The trench coat will never go out of fashion and is an extremely popular choice this  winter. It has a classic look and women can look seductive yet stylish and professional when wearing it. This season we see a wide variety of colours hit the racks so find one that works for you.

Belt it:

Adding a belt to the outside of the coat is a big trend this season. Great for flattering the waistline and showing how fashion-forward you truly are. For a contrasting look add a belt of a completely different colour or print. The coat can be left closed or open when wearing the belt for fresh look.
