Andrea Moore FW '09 - review

Andrea Moore and Andrea Moore Silverdale FW '09

Andrea Moore and Andrea Moore Silverdale sent a very assured collection down the runway this morning at ANZFW.  This is a designer who knows what works and who does that very well indeed. Based on an ethos that people on the street wear what they want in real life rather than what is dictated to them by the fashion luvvies, Moore knows what women will want to wear next year and that confidence in her product is what gave her range such a strong, wearable signature.

As long time Andrea Moore devotees know, women who love colour won’t be disappointed here – Moore’s palette took in vibrant reds, oranges, violets, bright greens and yellows. The bold juxtaposition of colour never more apparent than in the deep inky violet puffed hem skirt teamed with a tailored emerald green jacket. For those women who feel they like to make slightly more demure statements the muted tones of grey & olive made an appearance also, making those stunning long line cardigans with delightfully ruffled collars incredibly wearable.  The cardigan was a strong player here; from short ruffled versions through to simple pared down long line knits, these were teamed over everything – city shorts, dresses, tunics and skirts.

Andrea’s signature suiting made an appearance in a beautifully tailored grey suit, albeit wrapped up in an oversized olive scarf. I loved the feminine elements of the knitwear – the gorgeous ruffled amethyst top, the long orange red polo-neck sweater, the ruffle details on the rear of her skirts and the softly puffed hems of the dresses and skirts.

The standout of this collection was most notably the coats – from the swingy, big-checked plaid versions in grey/pink and brown/green, through to the divine purple flower one they all were gorgeous, but most gorgeous of all; those swing jackets with a zip up the back centre – a style played out in several incarnations - waterproof raincoats, fine wools and even a black brocade.
