FashioNZ Editor Julie Roulston met undeniably ‘super’ model Ai Tominaga at Malaysia-International Fashion Week. Julie was nothing less than starstruck by Ai’s gorgeousness, smarts and warmth.

Born in ’82 in Kanagawa, Japan, Ai debuted on the Fall Couture runways for Dior and Valentino in Paris at 21, and has since graced many covers, including Vogue and Harpers Bazaar.

 

Ai is now based in New York and mother to a four year old boy, and she still walks major runways for the likes of Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Celine and John Galliano with ad campaigns for YSL and Tag Heuer to her credit.

 

The exotic beauty had top billing at Malaysia-International Fashion Week and FashioNZ asked her a few quick fashion and beauty questions between shows…

 

What’s your current favourite item of clothing?
My black, many-pocketed bag – a gift from Marc Jacobs.

What’s your favourite fashion piece of all time?
My collection of long, slender evening dresses from Philip Lim, Louis Vuitton, and Celine.

 

What’s been your best buy this season?
Short black gloves, and short light grey boots.

What would you NEVER wear? Pouffy skirts or anything too girly/pretty. My look is rock ‘n’ roll/tomboy.

 

If you were to attend the Academy Awards, who would dress you?
Tom Ford or John Galliano Made to Measure.

 

What are your thoughts on aging gracefully?
I’m not going to have plastic surgery, nor Botox. I think older faces are beautiful and your experiences show in your face

 

What’s your all time favourite beauty product?
Dr Haushka rose body milk – it smells so gorgeous and makes my skin softer.

 

Do you have a beauty tip for FashioNZ readers?
Smile – a lot! Have fun! A smile is a natural face lift.
