Eight great Cardigans for Winter

Cardigans are an essential winter layering piece and we’re so lucky to have so many great knitwear options available to us here in New Zealand. Whether you’re after something classic, snuggly or suitable for evening we’ve found some lovely choices to help you stay warm this winter.

Merino Blend Ribbed Cardi $49.99 from Glassons (left) and Maggie Long Sleeve Cardi $109.99 from Review (right).

Glassons can always be relied upon to deliver a great range of cardigans at affordable prices. They have a mix of fashion forward and classic styles with merino blends for extra warmth. We’re loving the easy to wear feel of their Merino Blend Ribbed Cardi in this soft sienna hue which adds a nice pop of colour to a winter outfit. Review stock a charming range of classic cardigans each season and the vintage-inspired brand is the perfect choice for those ladylike fitted cardis that look wonderful with a fuller skirt. We can’t go passed their Maggie Long Sleeve Cardi in peacock for a winsome winter look.

Herstal Long Cardi $170 from Sills (left) and Heidi Hooded Cardi $149.99 from Max (right).

Longer length cardigans are excellent for lounging in and this season we’re taken with the Herstal Long Cardi from Sills. The brand excel in creating beautifully finished knitwear that is oh so soft to wear and contemporary in style. This cardi comes in a range of colours too although we love the timeless appeal of navy. Winter weather is nothing if not unpredictable so it’s always useful to have a hood which makes us a fan of the Heidi Hooded Cardi from Max. The soft grey makes it easy to adapt into your existing wardrobe and it’s made of a cosy wool and cashmere blend.

The Crosby’s Cousin $700 from The Knitter (left) and Abbey-Lee Cardigan $480 from Jessica Greetham (right).

Hand-knitted garments are making a comeback and it’s certainly nice to have a unique, handmade cardigan which you can treasure for years to come. It’s something that Nicole Leybourne from The Knitter is well aware of and why her gorgeous hand-knitted cardigans like The Crosby’s Cousin are in demand. The pretty pink hue of this particular cardi certainly adds to its covetability. Jessica Greetham recently debuted her first knitwear collection and we love her Abbey-Lee Cardigan for its clever cable knit details on the sleeves and oversized style which makes it so easy to throw on.

Honeycomb Lace Knit Cardigan $366 from Sabatini (left) and ¾ Sleeve Round Neck Domed Cardigan POA from Optimum Knitwear stockists available from August (right).

Sabatini have mastered chic knitwear and the beloved local label deliver a plethora of gorgeous knitwear every season. We’re adoring the Honeycomb Lace Knit Cardigan for its beautiful details and how perfect it is for adding to an evening outfit. It’s elegant silhouette and monochromatic style make it a sublime piece to treasure season after season. You can’t go past Optimum Knitwear‘s classic knits and we’re big fans of their superb pieces that are stocked throughout New Zealand and Australia. We love the delicately pretty style of this black cardigan that will add a polished look to your outfit and is great for those office to evening looks.
