This fashion show was a little different - it took place at the biannual Dental Expo, and showcased some very interesting and unexpected pieces, made solely out of dental materials.

Imagine gloves, masks, patient bibs, and even human teeth (!) all crafted into runway-ready outfits. The majority of the colours featured in these creations were wintery and white (as most dental materials are shades of white and blue, of course) but was perfectly suited to the current season!

A couple of outfits really stood out to me - the first being a pleated dress made entirely from masks. This particular style was reminiscent of the respective autumn/winter 2011 collections from Salasai and Juliette Hogan, where the brands added plenty of texture and movement to their pieces through the use of pleats. A very structured Colgate handbag completed the look, and added an unexpected pop of red to the outfit!

Another interesting piece was one made from patient bibs and gloves. (Check out the picture on the left below, thatʼs a lot of gloves!) It featured a layered maxi-length skirt, with a high waistline, and a simple top. The model even donned a matching fascinator (which looked like it was made from more bibs - seemingly a popular choice for the evening). 

 

Sable and Minx was just one of the designers to bring femininity back into the wardrobe this winter, with high waistlines prominent in the collection. The outfit on the right below featured this high waistline trend, and added an extreme tail hem (longer at the back), and a really interestingly structured and low cut neckline. And yes, those are Reach Access Flossers attached to the outfit and headpiece. Spiky.

 

 

 

These and other outfits presented at the Dental Expo show emphasised that fashion can be found anywhere - from the hottest runways of Fashion Week to the unexpected setting of a Dental Expo.  Maybe we’ll be seeing some of these looks next time we go into the dentist’s office! They beat boring old scrubs any day.
