Spring is the best time to update your wardrobe for the coming warmth and to fully prepare yourself for some fun in the sun. 

And what easier way to stock up on everything than to go to a department store and go nuts with your credit card? 

Well, at The Department Store’s launch show for their spring / summer collections, we got a good look at what top designers have “in store” for us for the upcoming season but, fortunately, our credit cards came back home in one piece.

Karen Walker and Blackbox NZ’s fashion creme de la creme - as well as Topshop and Topman, all showed us how to take the the hot weather in stride and look absolutely fashionable while doing it.

By the looks of things, this summer is all about bright colours, floral motifs, stripes, light chiffon, transparent fabrics and pleated skirts.

The uplifting vibe of the party, the wine, which poured freely, and the newspapers being handed out featuring the bright clothing and accessories from the collections allowed us to get a feel for  the “black vinyl days” of the British Northern-soul scene circa the 1970’s that inspired Karen Walker’s new collection. 

Bring on the summer soul!
