DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH

“these gems have life in them: their colours speak, say what words fail of” - George Eliot.

Treasures and trinkets are often discovered in the most unusual of places. Gem-stones are found buried within rock and dirt, each one is unique, precious and rare. Some believe gemstones have spiritual and symbolic meanings, while others are simply taken by their striking colours. Robyn has drawn inspiration from the idea that "things are not always what they seem; a gem can be disguised by a rough exterior and with love and repair its beauty comes to the surface" she says.

"You will find the gems in life...if you dig deep enough"

With Robyn herself an avid collector of unpolished gems and jewels for her own boutique range of jewellery, she enjoys working with a material that takes on the warmth of the body when worn and the varying colours encapsulated in one stone. The heartening gem-tones of Onyx, Amber and Ruby are complimented with bright pops of colour familiar to Robyn's collections - "this season the shades of Turquoise, Fuchsia and Sapphire will brighten up the chilly months", she says.

Prints are abstract, fabrics are textured and as always there is a strong focus on creating timeless pieces, which like the resilient gems that have guided this collection, can be worn season after season. Robyn creates garments that have that feel good factor - "I want clothes that I feel relaxed in; boost my confidence when I walk out the front door in the morning", the Wellington cloth queen says.

Alongside her signature knit dresses and flowing feminine daywear, Robyn's capsule collection 'Diamond in the Rough' will reveal longer silhouettes with shaping through the waist. Dual layers and subtle panelling become clever design features. Blazers, jackets, skirts and pants are directed towards a more tailored aesthetic.

This season also focuses strongly on the creation of exclusive NZ made, 100% merino knitwear. Long line cardigans, jumpers, and snoods in a range of bright colours and textures are perfect for layering in the colder months.
