State of Grace - Winter 2013 - The Tale of a Regal Rose
The grandeur and beauty of the rose provides inspiration for State of Grace’s winter 2013 collection The Tale of the Regal Rose.
Floral references dictate detailing. Petal shaped collars radiate from the necklines of several styles including the plush velvet Petal Coat. Prints are similarly helmed by theme. Impressionist roses decorate the delicate silk War of the Roses Blouse and the Persian Spot Dress features a graphic floral pattern graduating to polka dots. A secondary idea explored through fabric, the haziness of twilight, is evoked by the merging colours and abstracted print of the Winter Dusk Dress and pleated skirt.
As with the last two collections 1950s proportions are assimilated into designs, like the wool/cashmere Grand Reunion Coat, with its subtle flaring from the waist and longer length. Sleek tailoring informs the slim fitted Past Perfection and Nowhere to Run Dresses and the narrow legged, high-waisted Nowhere to Run Pants. And a new less-structured silhouette is introduced into the repertoire, a draped tunic with a long cowl neckline and curved hem in light, silky fabrics.
The Tale of the Regal features rich fabrics, assiduous detailing and a variety of silhouettes, unified by a sense of long lasting style which is also the collection’s greatest strength.
