Shoes for sun-drenched escapes

Foot stylist Pip asks "what shoes does a girl pack for a summer holiday?" Whittling down to four to five pairs of shoes is no mean feat...

What to pack for your (real or imaginary) trip? For me it's all about the anticipation, and thta's almost as good as the trip itself! I love love love the "ultimate travel wardrobe" pages in Elle, Vogue etc, especially the part when they ask celebs/models about their "must haves" for travelling.  You can almost picture yourself lounging on Jay Z's yacht in St.Barths or at P Diddy's infamous White party in The Hamptons.

Which brings me to...what SHOES does a girl pack for a summer holiday?

It must be a hangover from my backpacking days, but I like to pack light. Whittling it down to four to five pairs of shoes is no mean feet (ha!). Ok, sorry about that one...

1) Rope espadrille wedges are an absolute must, they're light, they're the perfect partner for the maxi dress, they lengthen those legs and the rope creates a nautical feel. Am feeling the optomistic violet shade of this platform pair by Paco Gil.

2) Also essential: a pair of pedicure-worthy strappy flat "grecian goddess" sandals in metallic...loving these soft gold thongs with chain detailing from Bally's new spring collections...OR if you're more of a silver girl, these silver thongs (also by Bally) with slight heel lift and adorable floral detail are right on trend.

3) Dare I say it, a pair of Havianas comes in handy, you don't want to get cut on coral...go for a bright colour or one of the slimline versions in metallic if you're more of a wallflower.

4) For running round with the kids, sightseeing or going for walks, a pair of crisp white or cream high-tops like this recycled jeans style from Levi's is useful. Make sure to wear them turned over at the collar for a relaxed look.

5) And when you want to pull out all the stops in a pair of heels? A tan or nude pair is a must, they will go with absolutely any colour. Your summer holiday is the best time ever to have a holiday from black! My picks? These killer heel cut-out platform sandals by Stuart Weitzman

See you on the runway!
