Wedges are back

Wedges are back in a big way this summer, and for good reason: they give length to the legs, make us look taller and slimmer and best of all they're often alot more comfortable than killer heels or stilettos.

What other summer shoe can see you through all those outdoorsy occasions? You don't want your precious heels getting stuck in the mud but neither do you want to sacrifice on added height and glamour. This is where wedges comes in - perfectly balanced and much easier to walk in than stilettos, they also add definition to heavy ankles, making them appear thinner, while retaining a very cosmopolitan vibe.

Most importantly, wedges are fun, and when warm weather hits, they become nearly irresistible. Even women who don't normally wear heels can opt for a bit more height when the heel is a wedge. Our favourite celebs turn to the wedge to add an air of sophistication to their everyday ensembles. Jessica Alba pairs her tan strappy wedges with a colourful summer frock and cardy; while It Girl Alexa Chung makes the Nautical look effortlessly cool with espadrille wedges.

Pair wedges with everything from jeans, trousers, city shorts, a maxi or a pretty floral summer dress. I for one won't be caught without at least one pair of them this summer!

Check out my top picks for some of the hottest wedges of the season...

  • Newcomer Donald J Pliner does great wedges too, super comfy at that. We love his tan GHITA slide for its slightly rustic look. It features cork, rope and a sculpted footbed.
