Give the gift of generosity this Christmas

The Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal, now in its 19th year, will support families throughout New Zealand this festive season.

This year, Kmart aims to collect more than 40,000 gifts which can be purchased from any retailer, not just Kmart stores and will be distributed by Santa’s unsung helpers, The Salvation Army.

The forecasted figure represents a 33 per cent increase in gifts required to meet demand since just last year.

Last year the Appeal helped nearly 30,000 underprivileged people ease the financial burden of Christmas. This year, The Salvation Army and Kmart hope to help spread cheer to even more people whose Christmas might otherwise be an unhappy one.

This year’s Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal be collecting gifts in stores around the country until 24 December.

Simply purchase a gift of your choice, collect a gift tag from any Kmart store to jot down your gift recipient’s intended gender and age, and then place it under the tree.

And that’s it!  You’ve now officially paid it forward.

Without the generosity of the public, many financially disadvantaged families will experience a bleak Christmas Day. However, the thoughtful contributions of New Zealanders will put a smile on a child’s face when they wake on 25 December.
