How to wear dark florals

Florals aren’t just for your spring wardrobe, there’s a new bunch of dark florals that are blooming just in time for winter. We’ve found some great looks from local labels and online stores to help you bring this trend into your wardrobe.

Sara Embroidered Bomber, $79.00 from EziBuy (left), Sara Printed Bomber, $99.99 from EziBuy (centre), Boohoo Plus Anya Applique Sweatshirt, $45.00 from boohoo.com (right).

In winter you’ll often be wearing a whole bunch of layers, so it makes sense that if you want to wear trend pieces you are going to want to wear them on the outside where you can see them. Whether you go for a jacket or an appliquéd jumper, you’ll be warm and stylish.

Boohoo Plus Katie Embroidered Playsuit, $50.00 from boohoo.com (left),  Floral Flip Skirt, AUD $49.95 from 17 Sundays (centre), Boohoo Plus Alexis Mini Skirt, $45.00 from boohoo.com (right).

There are lots of different kinds of dark florals out there – some are printed on to the fabric, some are woven in, there is a lot of gorgeous embroidery (my fave – it looks so lush!) and basically the sky is the limit. You can get some pieces that have a small rose embroidered and some that are full-on floral, find your favourite and go as subtle or as loud as you like.

Wild Child Pleat Back Top, $59.99 from Farmers (left), Dolman Sleeve Print Top, $99.90 from K&K (centre), Vintage Rose Top, $69.99 from City Chic (right).

Tops can be dressed up with a pencil skirt or ponte pants, or down with jeans. A top with a great print can be just what you need to break up the black on black that we often gravitate towards in the colder months (or all year round if you’re like me and like to wear all black everything).

Vintage Peony Dress, $139.95 from City Chic (left), Sara Velvet Dress, $99.99 from EziBuy (centre), Stella Royal Florence Dress, $187.00 from Zebrano (right).

Above the knee dresses can still be worn in winter, just pair them with a pair of thick black tights and some boots and you’ll be good to go. Play with textures and prints to get the look you want, and remember that you can add cardigans, blazers and coats for warmth.

Sara Ruffle Dress, $119.99 from EziBuy (left), Rich Rose Maxi Dress, $139.95 from City Chic (centre), Sara New Shirt Dress, $99.99 from EziBuy (right).

I always feel like long flowing dresses are really summery, but there’s no reason you can’t rock one when it’s cold. Add tights and ankle boots, and wear a good coat when you’re outside, and you’re all set to bring that summer vibe into the winter days.
