MAC Trends – Spring/Summer 2014

It is M•A•C trends time again and we take a look at the four main looks that M•A•C perfected on the international runways for Spring and Summer 2014.

Trend 1. Day Glow

A raw, rugged and creamy textured complexion is the best way to describe the Day Glow trend. Think California skater girl who is healthy, natural and fresh-faced. One of the main techniques of this trend is highlighting, to enhance the way light falls onto the skin creating a finish which is “organically beautiful’. It’s all about soft and subtle highlights opposed to an all-over tan story.

Trend 2. CC-Thru Colour

Recognising skin as multi tonal, CC-Thru Colour pushes the boundaries with colours that a strong, yet, have an affinity with the skin’s natural tone. Colours are watered down to give a tough, futuristic vibe and the complexion is about sheen not shine. Lip lines have a blurred, soft line and colour is stained. This trend sees the return of lilac to the colour palette, a shade which works on most skin tones.

Trend 3. Light FX

The white trend is the hero of the Light FX trend and a new approach to light-reflecting makeup. Soft brushes create clean, milky textures and we see the return of glitter but glitter which isn’t chunky. Sparkle is more refined and pressed in.

Trend 4. The new EYE Deal

Move over brows this season it’s all about lashes. The attention is on mascara and the application, to coat every lash making them soft and fluffy. Liner and Kohl, although not new, are entirely relevant and this season lines are straight with a wide-eyed 60’s vibe. The New Eye Deal trend also references the 90’s, and the smoky eye has a rubbed off, slept in finish.
