Mecca Maxima comes to the Capital

Some of our favourite products that will be available at Wellington’s Mecca Maxima. Image writer’s own.

Last year, Mecca Maxima opened its glass doors in Christchurch and next it is Wellington’s turn. We don’t have the full details yet, but we can tell you that another Mecca Maxima is set to open in Wellington this year in April. With over forty brands, from Too Faced to Hourglass, there will be something on offer for everybody and we will certainly be adding this must-visit destination to our next visit to the capital.

Before the new store opens though, we have five must-have product recommendations for you to look at. Start making your list and saving your money now because these are products you will not want to miss out on.

Bella Freud ‘Je Ta’ime Jane’ candle, $79
Mecca has an array of beautiful, luxury candles and fragrances. Diptyque’s Baies scent and Tocca’s Cleopatra get our votes. We’re also lusting after this Bella Freud candle. Its name was inspired by Jane Birkin, style icon and the epitome of Parisian Chic. Its scent is slightly floral but not in an overwhelming way.

By Terry Ombre Blackstar Cream eyeshadow, $62
This beauty writer is obsessed with these cream eyeshadows. They glide onto the lids like silk and once they dry down they will stay put. If you have ever tested these on your hands you will know they do not budge, no matter how much you rub at them. We love the shades Misty Rock and Bronze Moon. They are exquisite.

Frank coffee scrub, $19
You may have seen this scrub all over Instagram and while we are yet to try it ourselves, friends tell us it is worth the hype. Be warned though, it’s not the cleanest of products to use but if silky smooth, exfoliated limbs are what you’re after, this is for you.

Grace by Grace Coddington perfume, $160
This was one of Coddington’s first creative products following her scaling back her duties at Vogue. She wanted to design a rose fragrance which was akin to a perfume she loved in her youth growing up in Wales. To balance out the rose notes, it also contains white musk, peach blossom and amber crystal. If you’re thinking this might be too overpoweringly floral for you, we recommend you give it a spritz because you might just be pleasantly surprised. Oh and did we mention, it comes in a cat shaped bottle and packaging adorned with Coddington’s cat illustrations?

Too Faced ‘Better Than Sex’ mascara, $18-35
Despite the somewhat questionable name, this mascara really does deliver. It has a uniquely shaped bristle wand, which makes it incredibly easy to coat every single lash from root to tip. It even gets into those inner corner lashes with ease and creates plenty of curl and volume. If you’re more inclined to reach for waterproof mascaras, there’s a newer version, which will be ideal for you. We’re devoted to the original and totally see why it gets the amount of love it does in the beauty world.

Mecca Maxima launches in Wellington this April. We will keep you up to date with the details of its exact launch and of course its location in the capital.
