2010 Emmys Fashion: Hits & Misses

2010 Emmys Fashion: Hits & Misses

It’s always a great moment when a celeb gets it right on the red carpet,  but we have to admit that sometimes it’s a little bit fun when they get it oh-so-wrong.  This year’s Emmys red carpet saw several key trends: navy, white and nude were big shades, and one shoulder gowns were a big trend.  So, which celebs won fashion glory, and which suffered a fashion catastrophe?

Hits...

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta
This dress was gorgeous, the navy colour was perfect, and it was accessorised with just the right amount of bling – perfect for Glee’s leading lady.  But does anyone else think she's starting to look a little bit too skinny?  Time to stop that Hollywood diet please!

January Jones in Versace
This dress has received a lot of criticism from red carpet commentators so far, but I love it.  It’s very fashion-forward, very Versace – it’s not the type of dress you’d wear to a party, but an event such as the Emmys should call for flamboyant glamour.  She looks fierce.

Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta
Tina’s had a few misses on the red carpet recently, but she really redeemed herself in this stunning beaded Oscar de la Renta gown.  I love her sleek ponytail, and Tina demonstrates how a great fit can take a dress to the next level.

Eva Longoria in Robert Rodriguez
Basic black is always a safe choice, and sometimes celebs get criticised for this, but Eva’s simple gown makes her look so beautiful.  I love how the embellishment of the roses at the bottom takes the dress from boring to unique.

Misses...

Christina Hendricks in Zac Posen

In my opinion, this is the biggest disappointment of the night.  I’m a huge fan of Christina’s and she usually looks amazing, and really knows how to dress for her body.  So how did she go so wrong?  The colour doesn’t suit her skin tone, and makes her look washed out.  She has such a fabulous figure, but this dress makes her look slightly too top-heavy.  And don’t even get me started on those weird feather adornments...

Anna Paquin in Alexander McQueen
Firstly, I hate to say anything bad about Anna because I love her, and when I saw the first image of this dress, I only saw the top half and I loved it.  I thought the golden armour-esque look was fierce and fabulous, and of course, very McQueen.  But upon seeing the whole dress, the black fabric reminds me of a satin bed sheet, and I’m not sure if it’s meant to be tucked up under her knee like that.  Props to Anna for such a daring choice, but the overall effect is just weird.  Beautiful hair and makeup though.

Sofia Vergara in Carolina Herrera
Somebody has been watching way too many Miss Universe pageants... the colour is boring and the sequins are tacky.  Great hair though.

Emily Blunt
Another lavender frock, but unfortunately again, the shade doesn’t suit Emily’s skin tone, and washes her out. The fit doesn't do her bust any favours either.  It’s a shame because she is so beautiful, and normally looks great.

And the boys...
And just because it’s fun, we have to give a few honorary mentions to the men.  Best dressed (as always) has to be the most handsome/dapper man alive, John Hamm.  Second place I have to give to Ryan Kwanten – I liked his slightly quirky two buttoned jacket and maroon tie, and the hot unshaven look.  But then again, he’d look hot in anything...
