Hit or Miss? Kristen's Dress

It’s a miss!
Firstly, I don’t think Kristen has the confidence to pull off an edgy dress like this, she just looks awkward and uncomfortable.  Good on her for trying something different, and she’s definitely trying to be more of a fashionista and get away from her signature tomboy style, but this isn’t the way to do it.  The one-sleeve dress has been a big trend with celebrities lately, and white is definitely going to be big for this summer, but this outfit doesn’t interpret those two trends well.

If you want to try the asymmetrical look for your summer parties, here are a few tips to avoid Kristen’s mistakes:

• When wearing white – a bit of fake tan never goes amiss.  Pale skin is beautiful too, but with the all-white dress and shoes, Kristen looks like she’s the same colour all over! Actually, her upper body doesn’t look too bad – but those legs definitely need some colour.  Winter tanning can be tricky, so check out the Beauty Bible Winter Tanning Code of Conduct for some tips to get the perfect tan.  When you wear white, a tan will make you glow and look healthy – if you are pale, wearing full-on white will make you look washed out, like Kristen.  Plus, when you’re wearing a short hemline like this, tanned legs will also look slimmer.

• This dress has also just got too much going on, with the style and texture. The one-sleeve dress can look edgy and cool, but when you go for a strong look like this, keep the rest of the dress simple.  I don’t like the strange, fluffy texture of this dress – it detracts from the  shape of the mini, and also the one-sleeve is ill-fitting and looks too baggy on Kristen’s arm.  If you’re wearing this look, I’d keep it super simple in basic black, well-fitted fabric.

• On that note, a more wearable style to try if you do like this look is the one-shoulder dress.  It’s an easier look to pull off, and it looks flattering and stylish.  Check out Lauren Conrad and Blake Lively below.

• Finally – confidence, confidence, confidence!  Pulling off an attention-grabbing style like a super short, one-shoulder dress demands that you stand up straight and own the look.  This is Kristen’s biggest problem – she’s definitely got the legs and the body to rock this look, but she doesn’t look like she knows it.
