The Royal Wedding: Fashion Hits and Misses

The eyes of the world were on Catherine Middleton when she wed her prince in a gorgeous wedding gown designed by Sarah Burton for the house of Alexander McQueen.  But what about the guests?

 

 

Hats and fascinators ruled and while many looked glamorous, there were some who looked less than regal on the big day.  Here’s what we thought were the fashion hits and misses from the royal wedding below.

Hits

Tara Palmer-Tomkinson
The Brit socialite (who famously had to have her nose reconstructed due to cocaine abuse) stood out from the crowd in a striking electric blue Deborah Milner ensemble, with matching fascinator by (who else) milliner-to-the-stars, Philip Treacy.  Diva!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Victoria and David Beckham
Becks looked suitably dashing in his Ralph Lauren morning suit, (complete with top hat – although he never seemed to put it on, probably for fear of messing up his perfectly coiffed ‘do).  Posh received a bit of flack for looking a little too dark in her navy dress from her own collection, with a hat by Philip Treacy.  I thought Posh looked great – sleek, classic, and not to over-the-top so she didn’t upstage the bride. Pippa Middleton
Pippa looked outstanding in her bridesmaid dress, also designed by Sarah Burton.  The frock was criticised by some for being a bit too sexy, and she certainly looked hot, but what didn’t translate onto the TV screens were the intricacies of the dress.  It was a gorgeous shape, fit her like a glove, and had beautiful subtle detailing, with lace overlay and a row of buttons all down the back.  Beautiful.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Miriam Gonzalez

Worst

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie
Oh dear.  I don’t know who advised these two, but they certainly topped the list of fashion faux pas.  Eugenie was in peacock coloured Vivienne Westwood and the whole ensemble just didn’t work.  It was too tight and made her look chunky, and her Philip Treacy hat was too over-the-top.  Sorry Eugenie!  And then there was Bea...While her Valentino Haute Couture nude-coloured dress and coat were actually quite elegant, her hat was completely ludicrous, perching on her head at a strange angle.  Some fashion watchers suggested that the princesses were trying too hard to look “fashion-y”, and I think they might be right.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Chelsy Davy
Prince Harry’s on-off girlfriend wore a green Alberta Ferretti number – which was ill-fitting, and made her look frumpy.  Her silver hat didn’t match the outfit and looked like a piece of tin-foil!  Plus, was it just me, or did she look slightly dishevelled?  Late night for the party girl perhaps?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Zara Phillips
I didn’t like Zara’s futuristic-looking silver coat – it was far too masculine, frumpy and un-flattering.  I didn’t mind the hat though – but it would have looked better with a more feminine, elegant dress.
