NZFF Collections Two

The second NZFF collections show once again went off without a hitch, with impressive production values and of course, great clothes.  Singer Annabel Fay got the show off to a fantastic start, singing her single ‘River’ on the runway.

Then it was time for the clothes.  Trelise Cooper was first up, with her much-lauded AW11 collection, seen at NZFW last year – once again the baroque/stained glass window motif was clear in the collection, and I was again impressed by the darker, wearable nature of the clothes. A stand out was the heavy, navy military-inspired wool coat.

Next up was Carlson – the bright palette was refreshing for a winter collection, and a standout was the first piece up, the floral dress worn by New Zealand’s Next Top Model, Danielle.

The Carpenter’s Daughter AW11 collection, ‘Feminine Wiles’, came next – and congratulations to designer Caroline Marr, who this year is celebrating her 21st year in business.  Again she showed how she is the master of clever styling, use of fabrics and layering to flatter a woman’s curves.

Other highlights included tk store’s sexy, feminine dresses, and Yvonne Bennetti’s sequined cropped pants, which looked amazing on the runway.  The military influence for winter coats was also clear, seen in an army green woollen trench (with hot pink lining!)

Max showed lots of winter essentials, lots of knits and florals, and a surprise – a very elegant royal blue evening gown.

Juliette Hogan’s very feminine collection, which was so well-received at NZFW last year, closed the show.  Pretty, proper styling showed that the trend towards ‘dressing up’ is definitely back, and it was great to see one of my favourite pieces on the runway – the lace maxi dress, accessorised with a dainty bow belt.
