Blue Sky Birthday for Showroom 22
Those who attended last Tuesday’s Blue Sky event could easily have been mistaken for thinking summer had finally come to New Zealand given the array of beautiful spring garments that were on display.
The fashion event which was held by Showroom 22 as part of their 10th anniversary showcased Spring/Summer 2012 collections by Alexandra Owen, Salasai and Juliette Hogan.
Guests arrived from 7pm and were treated to beverages by sponsors San Pellegrino, 900 Grapes and Peroni as they socialized amongst beautiful floral arrangements. In terms of clothes, attendees were in for a treat, with all three designers presenting outfits suitable for a number of wardrobes and summer occasions.
Alexandra Owen was first to open, presenting a series of ruched garments in a series of vibrant shades. Much of the focus was placed on the upper body, with crossed necklines on dresses and bold shoulders on jackets. The trench coats and button up jackets which also featured, made for suitable additions to any powerful yet stylish corporate woman’s wardrobe.
The next designer to present was Salasai, whose androgynous collection was arguably the stand out of the evening. The collection featured tailored jackets, floral and polka dot prints, pinafores and silk blouses. The bright colour trend seen in Alexandra Owen’s show was also continued, with the collection featuring a bright pink pantsuit—the perfect party outfit for over summer.
After a short intermission, Juliette Hogan presented a classic, beautiful and feminine collection. Dark blue was featured heavily throughout the show, creating a nautical/seaside vibe. Loose skirts were paired with collared shirts, socks and flats, leaving the audience longing for summer. The only accessories which were missing were a cruise ship, cocktails and of course sunshine.
The Blue Sky event made for an enjoyable evening, which not only celebrated Showroom 22’s birthday, the success of three amazing local designers but also gave fashionistas across New Zealand something to look forward to over winter.
