Cybele at NZFW 2010 - Review

Simply Cybele

Cybele Autumn/Winter 2011

Nieriya

Cybele’s Nieriya collection ‘evokes a pagan cult of nature’. Cybele’s intention with the collection is to invoke a sense of elements colliding – earth, air, fire and water.  And this was certainly realised through Cybele’s seventh runway show at NZ Fashion Week.  Models wearing hooded capes opened the show, which was dramatic, ethereal and classic Cybele.

Cybele’s signature graphic prints featured strongly, from rippling ‘water’ in gold and jade silk, and elemental ‘volcano’ printed satin in jade, gold, amethyst, pearl and jet.  Long capes, flowing asymmetric tunics and velvet dresses were other key features, of the collection.

Muted olive green, greys, blacks, and yellow accents contributed to the elemental feel of the collection.  An absolute highlight for me was the cape fringed in yellow silk– very dramatic, and it looked outstanding on the runway.

Corset-style waist belts and bustiers made of patent leather created structure and contrast to flowing fabrics, and again, really stood out on the runway.

High waisted paints made of graphic printed fabric, and a dress and asymmetric cape in the same material were my other favourite pieces.

Cybele’s vision for the collection was fully realised through the show – from the ethereal makeup, with the models wearing white eye shadow and earthy tones on their lips, to the electric soundtrack, the show gave you a sense of the elements colliding.  An entertaining and high-impact show!
