Julia Fong at Scotties
Designer Julia Fong @ SCOTTIES
Julia Fong holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Elam School of Fine Arts in Auckland, New Zealand and has been formally trained in pattern making and garment construction.
Her industry training began in 1997 when she began working for Marilyn Sainty who had been a well known and respected designer in the industry for many years.
Marilyn gave her the opportunity to produce the Julia Fong label in house and sell in her Scotties boutiques alongside her own label as well as others such as Issey Miyake, Commes des Garcons and Dries Van Noten.
This led to stocking boutiques throughout New Zealand and in Australia.
In 2005 she went out on her own having established a loyal fan base.
A range of things inspire her from ordinary objects to the creativeness of Japanese designs.
Her designs are often described as offbeat, sculptural and beautifully cut.
Above all she strives to design clothes that are flattering, wearable, interesting and well constructed, a good balance of all these qualities.
