Sugar spun hair-ups

Sugar spun hair-ups

Lady-like and out of the way, elegant, sugar-spun French rolls and neatly pinned buns have stepped out of the manor and onto the catwalk…

It's the combination of clean, silky, shiny hair and nonchalant teasing that makes this look so chic – and we adore it as it transforms from catwalk to real life so well. Modern candyfloss texture and a traditional style makes for a sassy, jaunty look.

Look we love:

Directed by Lorna Evans for Redken, the candyfloss-textured, prim and proper up do's at the Ready to Wear #1 show at RAFW took our breath away. Inspired by the classic French roll, the look was relaxed with a slept-in vibe.

HOW TO:

Make sure you have clean, shiny hair. Spritz the roots with a volume-creating spray before you blow-dry. If your hair has a natural curl, blow-dry it straight. Tease it from the crown through to the lengths and then use a soft brush to smooth the top of the hair down.

For a French roll, hold the teased hair in a low ponytail at the nape of the neck with one hand. Use the other hand to twist the ponytail around its self up towards the top of the head and then roll it under. Tuck the end in, and pin. Don’t try to be too tidy – a flossy mess with a classic undertone is what the look is all about.

Using the soft brush, brush the hair at the front back slightly and hold in place with a fixing spray and a spritz of shine.

belle-du-jour

Belle du Jour:
Stephen Marr created this look for their Belle du Jour campaign – a series of fashion forward looks created for the school ball season.

Rebellious top knots with frayed edges match beautifully with Juliet Hogan florals. Smudged eyes and lips finish the look off for classic romance with a twist.
