Trilogy are well known for their eco-friendly approach to beauty and were proud to support the recent World Oceans Day on June 8th. This year’s event was focused on the theme of “Our Oceans, Our Future” which aims to bring awareness to the issues of plastic pollution and marine litter meaning healthier oceans for the future. Microbeads are a particular problem as they are non-biodegradeable and tiny enough to easily wash through drains and into the sea ending up not just on the sea floor but being ingested by marine life. Trilogy have been lending their support to help raise awareness of the international Beat the Microbead campaign which features on the packaging of their exfoliant products.

“These tiny beads are having a massive impact on marine life and disrupt the natural balance of our oceans. Scientists have estimated that an average bottle of face scrub contains as much as 100,000 plastic microbeads – the numbers are unimaginable on a global scale. Plastic microbeads are simply not necessary when there are effective natural alternatives available, ” says Corinne Morley, Trilogy’s Global in-house beauty expert.

Many countries have taken notice of the fact that microbeads are a serious problem and the New Zealand government announced earlier this year that cosmetic products containing microbeads will be banned in July 2018. Some businesses were quick to ban microbeads sooner with Foodstuffs NZ (who operate New World, Pak’n’Save and FourSquare stores) recently announcing that they will not be stocking any products which contain microbeads from July 1st this year. Trilogy are among the brands who have never used microbeads in their products and have been operating on an environmentally responsible business model from the beginning. The brand has been helping raise global awareness about the international Beat the Microbead campaign since it was created in 2013.

Trilogy offers two beautiful natural exfoliant products that are microbead free one of which is their Trilogy Gentle Facial Exfoliant that is formulated with natural, biodegradable, non-abrasive jojoba wax microspheres that act as an exfoliant. It also contains sweet almond, evening primrose and certified organic rosehip oil, active honey enzymes and camellia oil to nourish the skin. Trilogy Gentle Facial Exfoliant is a gentle exfoliant that is also suitable for sensitive skin and uses finely ground rosehip seed powder as an exfoliant with rosehip oil, sweet almond oil and beeswax to soften and protect the skin.

Trilogy is a NATRUE Natural Cosmetics certified company which means they have internationally recognised accreditation that guarantees cruelty-free and environmentally friendly practices. Trilogy was also the first New Zealand skincare brand to become carbon neutral, achieving certification in 2007 and carboNZero certification in 2016. Trilogy’s mantra is ‘maximum effect on your skin, minimum effect on our environment’ with all their products made from sustainably sourced pure plant oils and active botanical ingredients.
