Fiona Goddard from Fiona Clare Beauty

Summer is the season for weddings and today’s interviewee can certainly vouch for that. I interviewed the lovely Fiona Goddard of Fiona Clare Beauty as she is known by online and in the beauty scene. Fiona has over ten years experience in the beauty industry and has worked as a freelance hair and makeup artist on many a special occasion as well as backstage at the VNZMAs with Maybelline, creating gorgeous hairstyles for the pages of Together Journal, Glassons, Staple and Cloth and more. She’s a busy woman and really knows her stuff when it comes to all things beauty. We picked her brain on her bridal beauty must-haves as well as the essentials she has in her kit. Grab the pen and paper ladies, you will want to take notes…

What looks are popular for bridal hair and makeup this Summer?
I’ve seen a lot more of the sleek low bun coming through as opposed to the messy/curly bun which is amazing if you can pull it off! It’s incredibly chic and understated.

You did your own makeup for your wedding (which looked stunning by the way). What were your favourite products that you used on the day?
Thank you! I would have to say the stand out product for me was the eye shadow quad I used from Tom Ford in Honeymoon 04. Any shades that are rich and warm I gravitate towards and this quad has a gorgeous mix of gold, bronze and cranberry. It tied in perfectly with my blush pink dress.

What advice do you have for wedding guests that love doing their makeup but don’t want to overshadow the bride?
Be yourself – rock the signature look that you love to wear and as long as you’re not wearing white you’ll be fine.

What should all brides have with them on their wedding day?
A lipstick for touch ups. If you’ve used a good makeup artist everything should last perfectly but your lipstick will be the only thing to fade after eating and drinking.

Did you have a signature wedding fragrance? What was it and why did you choose it?
Tom Ford Orchid Soleil – it’s quite a strong floral scent that’s a little musky. I wanted to have something different to my everyday fragrance that I could reach for on very special occasions and remind me of my wedding day.

Do you have any beauty tips for brides that might want to do their own hair and makeup for their big day?
If you are wanting to do your own chances are you’re very good at it so my advice would be sticking to the products that you know work really well for your skin and hair. Practice your look, wear it for the day and see how it all holds up, take a few photos and see what you think.

Finally, what are your must-have products for bridal hair and makeup?
My favourite hairspray is Redken Fashion Work. It has a great hold but is still very flexible. It doesn’t leave the hair too crunchy. I have loved the Bobbi Brown vitamin enriched face base for years now. It’s a great moisturising primer that sits beautifully under foundation. Inglot’s gel liner is amazingly long wearing and will not run or smudge throughout the whole day.
