Wynn Hamlyn NZFW 2016

Looks from Wynn Hamlyn’s Winter 2017 collection on the NZFW runway.

One of the solo debuts we were most looking forward to this week was Wynn Hamlyn, which is a contemporary womenswear label designed by Wynn Crawshaw, and he certainly delivered the goods on the runway. His Winter 2017 collection is called “Axminster” and was named after the vintage Axminster style carpet that was incredibly popular in the 1970s.

That vintage feel translated well into a collection that was rich on tapestries and texture, the carpet looks, most notably an amazing coat, made for really covetable styles on the runway, whether draped around the waist or carried as Mary Poppins-size carpet bags. Complementing the fringed carpet was haberdashery cords and tassles styled as belts which added a sense of drama. High waisted denim with matching jackets, slick suiting and ribbed knits made for looks that had a 70s feel but a contemporary edge. Intersecting ruffles kept the shirts modern and oversized eyelets were a playful touch. Beautiful floral printed velvet featured on v-neck jumpers which looked lush while D-ring belts added a feminine shape to more utilitarian looks.

Clever styling by Danielle Clausen saw Glen Prentice’s stunning beaded tassle earrings and cool girl sunglasses in blues and oranges add a luxuriousness and modernity to the range while still giving a nod to its vintage inspiration. We’ve never coveted wearing carpet before, but we definitely are now and will definitely be sporting it next winter thanks to Wynn Hamlyn.

Beauty notes: Natural no-makeup, makeup with nude lips and brushed back hair

Hot Item: We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – that amazing carpet coat! Swoon.
