A touch of grunge with Dr. Martens x Rick Owens inspiring collab

Dr. Martens x Rick Owen

The new Dr. Martens x Rick Ownes collaboration

We’re a bit partial to a touch of grunge, particularly when paired with something unexpected like a flowing dress. There’s something about the juxtaposition of unlikely allies that’s the absolute definition of opposites attracting.

The new Dr. Martens x Rick Owens collaboration fits into that same mould by pairing the statement 1918 18-eyelet boot and 1460 8-eye boot with performance artist Ron Athey to create some truly memorable imagery for the two-piece collection.

For some reason, it all just works harmoniously and the dark underground aesthetic of Rick Owens proves a perfect pairing with Dr. Marten’s long history of structured, utilitarian boots.

The gender-neutral silhouettes make a towering statement, with both boot styles fitted with an oversized, heightened tongue, heavy side zips, and adorned with dramatic wrap-around laces.

Dr. Martens’ 1460 8-eye boot has been rebuilt in soft, heavyweight black Lunar leather with contrasting, jumbo-thickness pearl laces and extra wide eyelets with a dull silver finish. The Docs black AirWair heel loop is signed with a tonal pearl script, and the welt is punched with the instantly recognisable yellow Dr. Martens stitching.

The 1918 Rick Owens is a boot ripped from centre stage: with its entire upper constructed using a striking platinum Hair-On leather. The boot is fitted with pearl laces, with eyelets and hook trims in a dull silver finish. The unorthodox statement boot is tagged with a black and pearl heel loop, secured with the yellow welt stitching and finished with a dual-branded sock liner.

The first instalment of the new Dr. Martens x Rick Owens collaboration is available now at drmartens.co.nz.
