There’s a confident self-assurance about the delightful Dreams Undreamt SS22 collection from New Zealand designer Sheryl May. It’s also wonderfully evocative with toile de jouy prints and linen, delicate broderie anglaise, and romantic silhouettes.
With more than two decades experience designing truly memorable womenswear, Sheryl May has always demonstrated a refreshing point of difference, with designs that often reference nostalgia and the beauty of nature.
And then there’s her gorgeous signature fabrics, offering a truly transformative fashion experience and a tease of the unexpected.
In a year limited by travel constraints, Sheryl admits that following the isolation of lockdown, her imagination flew unfettered for SS22 and Dreams Undreamt was born.
“The prints are inspired from the Medinas of Marrakesh, the temples of Jaipur, palm-fringed beaches of the Caribbean, and who knows where else,” she says.
Think romantic maxi dresses, billow and flow with signature swans, leopard, vintage florals, and toile de jouy tiger prints. Easy-wear tops are frilled and pin-tucked, and tassel details feature strongly throughout the collection. A bohemian mood prevails, with lightness and hopefulness in the air.
