Exciting New Zealand footwear designs from new Bronwyn collection

Sarah Street, designer and founder of Bronwyn

Talented New Zealand designer Sarah Street is hitting all the right notes once again with the release of her latest Spring Summer collection of thoughtfully designed Bronwyn footwear.

Delivering all of the signature detailing and clean lines the Bronwyn brand is becoming renowned for, the new collection, called Soft Focus, gently pays tribute to the romance of the warmer months.

“I think for me soft focus has been a journey of growth and realisation and acceptance in a sense; being able to celebrate the ability to learn and adapt to the climate we find ourselves in,” says Sarah.

“I’m also learning to view myself and the brand through a less critical lens and more through one of celebration and love; it’s been a really therapeutic process to design the range from this new vantage point.”

The result is a distilled edit of elevated pieces, each a careful balance of proportion and silhouette, in dreamy hues of chocolate, tangerine, butter and camel, grounded
with black.

Bronwyn as a brand has a desire to champion the discerning wearer through the creation of elevated pieces with refined, minimalist detailing. As always, the use of premium leathers, flattering silhouettes, and a sharp focus on curated comfort is key.

Sarah was formerly head designer at Mi Piaci and Overland Footwear and honed her knowledge of footwear over the past 13 years in both New Zealand and the UK. She has a sharp eye for stylish design and created Bronwyn (lovingly named after her late mother) to offer conscious, carefully crafted shoes that are meant to be worn for many seasons to come.

“Our shoes are inspired by Bronwyn and the many like-minded women in our lives. Conscious and forward-thinking women who lead multifaceted lives, with an appreciation for a minimalist aesthetic and an eye for detail.”

New Zealand-designed and ethically made, Bronwyn footwear is realised through a partnership with ethical manufacturers in Dongguan, China – a female-owned business by a long-time friend of Bronwyn creative director and designer Sarah Street.

“Working alongside my friend from almost the outset of my footwear design career means there’s an inherent trust and mutual understanding of creating beautiful products together, improving quality and testing boundaries of what’s possible in construction, season after season.”

The Soft Focus collection features toe thongs, wrap-around straps, and flatform units, and the brand’s sell-out foundation staples Cas, Stevie, and Ross return with subtle tweaks made possible with smaller production runs.

“Small batch production is challenging, as there’s a lot of restrictions that come with it, but it also has a lot of benefits, both from a sustainability and design perspective. It allows for gentle refinements with each season.”

The Soft Focus collection is available online and at selected stockists now.
