Aspiring designers and design-enthusiasts of Aotearoa, mark your calendars for this mandatory two-day fashion event
While the return of New Zealand Fashion Week is dominating local fashion coverage, there’s another noteworthy fashion event glimmering on the horizon: Pacific Fusion Fashion Show, scheduled for 1-2 December 2023.
The second live event since 2019 and once again spearheaded by Pacific Fusion Fashion Show founder and organiser, Nora Swann, PFFS 2023 is a celebration of old and new, promising a fresh format and the resurrection of a legacy partnership with FashioNZ.
“FashioNZ has a proud history of supporting the Pacific Fusion Fashion Show, so we are thrilled to be able to continue this in 2023,” says FashioNZ editor, Phoebe Watt. “Anecdotally and by the analytics, indigenous and Pasifika design and fashion is a top drawcard for our audience. For anyone in Aotearoa who has even a passing interest in the fashion industry, Nora has created an unmissable event that showcases Pacific talent on an international scale.”
This year, the two-day event begins with a pop-up shop for Pacific creatives and fashion designers to sell their creations, and interact with an audience of fashion lovers. On day two, emerging sustainability-minded designers will take their collections to the catwalk for the Youth Fashion Show.
“There’s a lot of amazing local talent coming through, especially from those who are repurposing clothing,” says Nora, adding that the 2023 event has already elicited strong interest from both local and international designers. “Being able to bring exposure to these hardworking young people and to give them a taste of a large-scale fashion show environment is an incredibly important driver of the event.”
