FNZ Creators Power List: Kiekie Stanners

I have always tried to champion local fashion – wearing NZ designers when working abroad or presenting in front of an audience. And in the face of the changing media landscape, that has shifted to my social content too.

I am a professional makeup artist and have been working within the Aotearoa fashion industry since I was a teenager. I was always drawn to the craft of fashion design, studying at AUT and working within the local industry before joining M.A.C Cosmetics – who was at the time the leading fashion/backstage beauty brand. My role as a Global Ambassador took me to International Fashion Weeks and to participate in the creation of seasonal trends reports around the world – getting a first-hand look at how fashion and beauty is marketed and story-told globally.

I have also been lucky enough to work with so many incredible kiwi designers over the course of the last 15 years, creating makeup looks backstage at NZFW, offsite shows, campaign imagery or social content. Besides my makeup artistry, my favourite content work has been with Naveya and Sloane, Zambesi, M.A.C AIDS Fund and Kate Sylvester.

My hope for the future of Aotearoa fashion and influence is to inspire others in their creative pursuits, and see the industry thriving in all arenas that turn the cogs to make it successful: designers and their design house, creative writers, stylists, hair/makeup, producers, PR and authentic influencers.
