Introducing: Shen Spring/Summer 16

Inspired by the androgyny and masculinity of Helmut Newton’s iconic portraits of women, together with the exploration of fluid forms and disciplined silhouettes, Shen SS16 presents a collection that is confident, modern and relaxed. Returning to the label’s founding philosophy, SS16 is a creation of garments that are timeless, thoughtful and cut from the finest quality materials.

Garments are devoid of embellishments and trims, in favour of designer Mary-Ellen’s appreciation for beautiful  fabrics.  This is evidenced through the utilisation of silks, linens, cottons, scalloped cotton lace, and viscose sateen and crêpe.

The Shen silhouette–clean tailoring, offset against flowing, languid layers has been developed further for SS16 to incorporate both masculine and feminine elements.

Traditional boxy and straight lines of 80s power suiting are softened through draping and hem tuck detailing. Relaxed cuts featuring lowered armscyes, back cowls, and asymmetrical hemlines are continued throughout the collection. Midi length dresses, wide sleeve coats, relaxed blouses, cigarette trousers and striped suit–a nod to traditional menswear, provide garments that are practical.

Whilst the wide leg pant and mélange of dresses including the kimono–a Shen signature, suggest a resort sensibility. A muted palette of ivory, rabbit grey, navy, charcoal and black evoke masculine undertones. While accents of cobalt blue, cerise, chambray, gingham and micro geometric prints lend a sense of femininity.

Combined with soft and artful cuts, Shen SS16 offers effortless dressing for the season ahead.
