Karen Walker’s latest jewellery collection launches in stores and online today with a charming nautical theme. Designer Karen Walker grew up in our own City of Sails and has had a long fascination with the sea which has been translated into a maritime inspired collection that sees the brand’s iconic Runaway Girl set sail too.

The range is aptly titled The Navigator and the pieces feature delicately detailed depictions of ship and sea icons including a ship’s bell, a captain’s whistle and a be-roped anchor, a seahorse and a fishing lure. All beautifully crafted in sterling silver, 9 carat gold and 9 carat rose gold.

Karen Walker’s famous Runaway Girl is off to sea without her regulation stick and bindle, for this voyage she’s toting a nautical burgee over her shoulder and wearing a sailor’s cap and plimsoll shoes. The Runaway Girl is centred on a compass-like disc outlined with fine rope, which has a whimsical and suitably nostalgic feel on a classic signet ring and as a pair on huggie hoops. In a clever twist the disc is double-sided and can be spun to have the Runaway Girl or an anchor design showing at the front.

“I grew up on the water and I wanted this collection to reflect that sense of tradition and romance that boating life always evokes for me,” says Karen. The designer was first drawn to the sea when spending time on her family’s boat in the waters of the Hauraki Gulf. She currently lives minutes from the sparkling Waitematā Harbour and the sea’s never been far from her heart or her eye which is why Karen is currently taking sailing lessons with the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron

You can find The Navigator in all Karen Walker stores, on karenwalker.com and in select boutiques, department stores and jewellers.
