The most lavish red carpet of the year has rolled around again after a tumultuous previous year seeing the cancellation of the Met Gala in 2020. This year, the glamorous gala is back and better than ever with the theme “In America – A Lexicon of Fashion,” honouring the 75th anniversary of the Costume Institute and celebrating modern American fashion.
Celebrities flocked to the red carpet donning inspiring and over the top ensembles, dressed by their favourite designers and paying homage to their favourite iconic fashion moments of the past and this year’s beauty looks are just as fascinating. Honourable mentions go to Yara Shahidi, who channelled French Icon, Josephine Barker and Billie Eilish channelling Marilyn Monroe. Naomi Osaka paid tribute to her Japanese heritage, Maisie Williams with her Matrix-inspired look and of course, we can’t forget our Lorde and saviour with her repurposed antique look by Bode, complete with a fitting jewelled crown. LA based Kiwi makeup artist Amber D did Lorde’s suitably regal beauty look.
