Lillie Toogood is the designer and founder of accessories label Good&Co that creates unique scarves based on Lillie’s photography. She founded her label in 2011 after previously working for the likes of Karen Walker, Trelise Cooper and Camilla & Marc. Lillie previously trained in graphic design and her flair for imagery and colour is evident in her modern scarves that are crafted in linen, cotton and silk.

We caught up with Lillie to find out more about her brand, what inspires her and what you would never catch her wearing!

Tell us about your latest collection?
Our SS19/20 range is called Le Haus. The artwork is all based around my photography of an iconic mid-century building in Berlin which I have always found very inspiring and finally made a visit to in our last trip to Germany. It was great to have a much narrower subject matter for this range, and really use the graphic features of the building and it’s surroundings to create the amazing textiles for the range.

What made you become a designer?
I don’t really call myself a designer as I’m more a small business owner, with designer being one of the many cogs. Since I can remember I’ve been making my own creations to try to sell. I studied graphic design and have merged those skills with my love of travel, textiles and photography in Good&Co in a drive to be self employed and make a living off what I create.

What inspires you?
Traveling. Airports. Family. Culture. Colours. Being behind a lens. People. Textiles.

Describe your personal style and how it influences your designs?
My clothing style is simple – black, white, grey, stripes, it’s jeans, blazers – it’s all about the accessories for me. I’m 6ft tall so I’ve also struggled find styles that I love and that suit my body type. When I discovered how to accessorise I think that gave me a new lease on fashion as it meant I could find my flare and still be comfortable. Big statement accessories are key and neutral clothing as a base makes the perfect canvas for big, bright and bold accessories (big scarves and rings!).

What is your all-time favourite purchase?
Vintage statement jewellery from Becker Minty in Sydney.

What wardrobe item should everyone invest in?
Timeless blazer, white t-shirt, well cut jeans – scarves!

Do you have a style rule you always obey?
Less is more (and I don’t mean ‘wearing less’ haha).

What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Being picked up by cult store Colette in Paris. Showing at Capsule in New York. Debuting at NZFW 2019.

What can’t you live without?
Scarves – they complete me. Literally take them everywhere for every occasion. Can’t have too many!

Finish this sentence – You would never catch me wearing…
High heels.
