The glamour of pearls returns with new Nick Von K collection

Pearls are enjoying yet another moment glorying in the spotlight, with a resurgence of interest from designers such as Dolce and Gabbana, Prada, Givenchy, Dior, Versace, Miu Miu, and Chanel – all of whom showed pearls on their recent international catwalks. And while once upon a time, pearls adorned the necks of the wealthy in the 17th Century (and beyond), these days pearls have once again become highly sought after, but they’re no longer gender-specific (largely thanks to musician Harry Styles).

Keeping up with the global resurgence of pearls and fine jewellery pieces is Auckland designer Nick Klarwill of the popular Nick Von K jewellery brand.

“Pearls are super versatile, they add a luxe, vintage touch to the most modern outfit, and as Jackie Kennedy was famous for saying, ‘pearls are always appropriate’. Pearls retain their effortless stylishness due to their simplicity and versatility so it’s no surprise to witness their comeback,” he says.

Nick has been adding a number of stunning pieces in both yellow gold and sterling silver designs to cater for the increase in demand for his timeless collection.

Elegant and classic, mother of pearl is also enjoying time back in the spotlight. Nick’s pieces are hand carved from Mother of Pearl Shell and set in Sterling Silver or solid Yellow Gold.

“Pearls and mother of pearl are wonderfully antique. They remind me of old-world glamour and my grandmother all dressed up. The beautiful luminous quality of both pearls and the shells they come from catches the light with a glow like nothing else. It’s not a sparkle; it’s a glow. They’re timeless and yet I always try to give them a fresh take, bringing a new and exciting concept together with old-world glamour.”

The collection is available in-store and online.
