An NZ jeweller is selling $1299 necklaces at KFC

Talk about an original recipe

From delicate feather motifs to birds in flight, ornithologically-inspired jewellery is nothing new. Albatross around one’s neck notwithstanding, there’s something enduringly appealing about wearing a winged talisman, and jewellery houses have dined out on this concept throughout history.

More secret-recipe than same-old, same-old, Tāmaki Makaurau jeweller Nick von K is the latest to take a seat at the table, having teamed up with KFC (yes, really) on an ultra-limited edition collection, designed to raise money for Surf Life Saving New Zealand.

An initiative of the fried chicken maison’s charitable wing KFC For Good, Nick von K ‘Boneless’ celebrates the return of KFC’s Hot & Crispy Boneless chicken with a buffet of 11 necklaces in an ode to everyone’s favourite spice blend.

Suspended from utilitarian chains, sterling silver bones appear freshly licked and gnawed free of their crispy coatings, while white cubic zirconias and genuine hand strung pearls play up the droolworthy inspiration.

Priced at $1299 each (or, in KFC terms, a hundred Boneless Boxes), six of the 11 designs are available to purchase online, including the classic crossbone No. 04, and its pearl-adorned partner in crime, the No. 08.

With 100% of proceeds from every single sale being donated to Surf Life Saving New Zealand, Nick von K Boneless is the ultimate blend of memento mori and life-affirming fashion, making it our statement accessory pick of the season(ing).
