Dear Sutton unleashes the power of colour

Dear Sutton AW23

Looks from the Dear Sutton AW23 collection

Unleash your inner confidence, fuelled by the power of vibrant colour and flattering feminine designs, with the exciting AW23 debut collection from Dear Sutton.

This New Zealand label is a sister brand to the already well-established and much-loved STELLA + GEMMA, which has found its own extraordinarily popular niche for its delightfully on-trend collections where classic colours, pretty florals, and prints are at the heart.

Dear Sutton cranks up the volume a couple of notches, delivering clothing with immediate impact and attitude. The colour palette is bold and vibrant, and while sustainability is at the forefront of the designer’s mind, with natural or recycled fibres chosen where possible, the disarming prints featured throughout demand attention and respect, with an underlying sense of playfulness.

Dear Sutton embraces a confident, feminine, contemporary woman, with just a little bit (or a whole lot) of attitude.

The range combines functional, timeless silhouettes with strong colours and fabulously quirky prints, from bright herringbones and galloping equines to whimsical florals – all bringing a little bit of fun to everyday dressing.

Who is the designer/design team behind Dear Sutton?

The collections are very much a collaborative effort by a small team of fashion lovers, led by me.

What sparked the motivation to create and launch Dear Sutton?

Dear Sutton’s sister brand STELLA + GEMMA focuses on more classic colours and pretty florals and prints. I felt there was room for a new brand, which combines affordable functional everyday clothing with modern print and colour. Having a personal love of colour and print, it’s been nice to play with stronger, more vibrant hues and bold prints, which are so dear to my heart and personality. The designs really are a reflection of what I’d love to have hanging in my wardrobe.

What are non-negotiables when it comes to Dear Sutton?

Compromising quality over price.

Some info on Dear Sutton designs, silhouettes, and fabrics

Silhouettes aim to be classic, feminine, timeless and importantly – comfortable and can be taken from day to dusk. As such are the demands of the ‘’modern-day woman’.

Sustainability is at the forefront of our minds in developing the collections. As it’s so important, wherever possible, we strive to use natural or recycled materials (predominantly cotton/viscose/linens) throughout all parts of the manufacturing process. By not manufacturing large runs, we hope to run on a low-waste model. We will work to constantly improve ourselves in this aspect.

Some info on your newest collection and what inspired it

We have just launched our debut collection for AW23. It has a touch of prep to it – being the ‘new kid on the block’. Obviously, our bold prints are a standout but there are some other great styles among these, such as the Darcy dress with its play as an elevated tennis dress and other wardrobe essentials such as the Branson pants (so comfortable) and our classic but bold striped Preston shirts.

What you’d love everyone to know about Dear Sutton?

Fashion should be fun and should not be taken too seriously. While we try not to miss a beat on the latest colours of the season, we don’t really follow trends. All styles are curated with our own wardrobes in mind, which as busy, modern women (all varying ages) we would like to wear day-in-day-out. I love the fact that my late teen daughter and I are wearing the same pieces – both with our own spin, of course.
