Lucilla Gray NZFW 2015

A sunny morning greeted the second day of New Zealand Fashion Week and the first off-site show of the day by relative newcomer Lucilla Gray. The fashion set descended on Grey Lynn’s Kingsize Studios for an installation presentation that was a sanguine beginning to the day.

A sweet garden set complete with delicate white blooms, ferns and grass created the perfect setting for Lucilla Gray’s fresh-faced models to pose in their carefully styled outfits. Floral was a strong theme and present on a detailed signature print with a soft chequerboard background. Mint, periwinkle and lemon made for a crisp colour palette that was complemented by grey, white and hints of black.

Each garment was impeccably cut and beautifully finished with great attention paid to getting the details right. The silhouettes were suitably relaxed and flowing with wide-legged trousers and floor-grazing skirts paired with long-lined tops and strappy loose camisoles that tied at the shoulders. The look was minimalist, elegant and very contemporary.

Presenting just ten looks, the collection was small but perfectly-formed and a great example of how much stronger it can be to present a well-edited range of looks. Lucilla Gray may not have been around for very long yet but going on her first self-assured NZFW presentation we will be seeing much more of her in future.
