Twenty-Seven Names NZFW 2013 Review

Mixing old school cool, chic nonchalance and subtle charm, Twenty-Seven Names presented their most grown up collection to date as the first label to show on the runway at NZFW 2013. Opening the show with a succession of tailored looks in navy, whilst retaining that 90s preppy vibe they do so well, but with a more elegant feel, evident in the elegant silhouettes in blazers, pants and dresses.

Inspired by Rene Magritte, the Belgian surrealist artist, the collection titled ‘I’m Lost’ combined a neutral colour palette of navy, ivory and caramel to represent the light and dark of his work, with pops of scarlet and soft playful heart and star prints set off by a bright gold/purple/scarlet lame print, which added a sense of whimsy. The bowler hat which according to the show notes, is a motif in Magritte’s work featured literally as the some of the model’s looks were finished with bowler hats and in cute little bowler hat brooches on some outfits.

With fresh faces and long straight hair, as is their NZFW trademark, model after model came down the runway to a killer soundtrack featuring everything from Mariah Carey to Paul Simon with the expected doses of hip hop thrown in for good measure. Standout pieces were the dramatic tailored coats and sweet printed dresses (love those prints!) The soft cable knits were the perfect throwover piece to keep you warm in winter.

Today’s offering was another polished and well-considered range from Twenty-Seven Names, who excel at doing really wearable garments that are oh so covetable and as sophisticated as you want them to be. This collection will be sure to make it on to lots of women’s wishlists for Winter 2014.
