New Balance sustainability focus with Green Leaf range

Finding alternative and more sustainable materials is a top priority for many brands around the world. When it comes to New Balance’s apparel and footwear collections, the brand’s green leaf standard is leading the way.

Introduced to New Zealand in recent months, New Balance’s green leaf standard covers a variety of footwear and apparel. All items sporting the green leaf tag need to meet New Balance’s ‘environmentally preferred’ material standards, including being made with at least 50% recycled or organic fibres and materials.

One of New Balance’s iconic best-sellers is the 574. The 574 Core range now fits the green leaf standard, made with an upper of 50% or more recycled or organic materials, 5% recycled rubber in its outsole and the midsole manufacturing process reducing waste by 65%.

Other recent additions with a green leaf tick of approval include the 574 in marblehead with rain cloud and 57/40 in green with angora and magnet.

Other green leaf shoe arrivals include the Fresh Foam X 1080v12 in black with cobalt and Fresh Foam X Hierro v7 in black.

Green leaf apparel options are also on the rise, with eye-catching options including the NB Athletics Nature State Graphic tee in olive leaf, Uni-ssentials French Terry short in sea salt heather, and Shape Shield ⅞ High Rise Pocket Tight in black.

The green leaf initiative has been introduced across New Balance over the last two years, making sustainability a priority in the process of creating quality designs that last.

“Building our product in a more responsible way is a continuous journey,” said Dean Howard, General Manager of New Balance Australia & New Zealand. “We are continuing our green leaf efforts with styles from our highest-volume footwear models, placing our efforts where the impact will be the greatest.”

“To acknowledge the current journey to become a more socially responsible brand, we are conscious of the scale and environmental impact from the decisions that are made around the world”, he says.

The New Balance green leaf collection is available in-store and online.
