Zambesi to Open New Flagship at Commercial Bay

Zambesi is set to bring its bold and uncompromising vision of New Zealand fashion to Auckland’s Commercial Bay, with a new flagship store opening this spring.

Founded in 1979 by Elisabeth and Neville Findlay, Zambesi has been at the heart of Aotearoa’s fashion identity for more than four decades. Known for its moody, intellectual aesthetic, the label is celebrated for sharp tailoring, architectural silhouettes, and garments designed to outlast trends.

The new store will sit on the ground floor of Commercial Bay, joining fellow local heavyweights Wynn Hamlyn, Juliette Hogan, Sylvester, and Elle & Riley in the precinct’s growing roster of New Zealand fashion brands.

“We are excited to join Commercial Bay and bring our universe to this vibrant part of the city,” says Zambesi founder and designer Elisabeth Findlay. “Our new space will reflect the essence of Zambesi: intelligent design, enduring style, and garments that tell a story. We’re looking forward to welcoming new and loyal customers into the space and continuing to be part of their lives.”

Zambesi’s move further cements Commercial Bay’s position as a go-to fashion destination for both locals and visitors. “This is a brand that has helped shape the identity of New Zealand fashion,” says Commercial Bay Centre Manager Andrew Trounson. “Having Zambesi open a new store here strengthens our retail offering with a true leader in contemporary fashion.”

Throughout its history, Zambesi has remained committed to local production, with garments designed and made in-house in Auckland. Its reputation is matched by a long list of achievements, from opening New Zealand Fashion Week in 2017 as the Mercedes-Benz Presents Designer to showing at international runways in London and Australia.

The new Zambesi flagship at Commercial Bay is expected to open in spring 2025.
